Here’s the secret.

You’re already married.

So many couples miss their own
weddings because they put such
great importance on the wedding.
They are nearly in a coma by the time
it whirls past them.

Give yourselves a break.

Be a guest at your own wedding
and experience what everyone else
already knows -

that you have made the best choice ever.

By the time you read this you will have
had the important conversations,
arguments, debates, and love making.
About children or not, careers, family,
where to live, money, legal logistics – all the details of your
partnership.  It has probably happened over weeks or months, and
you now have a foundation of an agreement with one another.
You will modify it for the rest of your lives - adding and subtracting
as new ideas come and old ideas are no longer relevant.  You are
compost.  Organic material turning into other organic material.

To my mind, this makes you married.

So the wedding – that’s for your celebration.  That’s the time for
you and your friends to come together and witness what already
IS.

I am not marrying you.  You are marrying one another, and I am
there to help you structure the story you want told.  Think of it as
your own personal myth.  How you met.  How you fell in love.  How
you made the decision to go for the gusto, and how you knew this
was the person with whom you wanted to take the ultimate leap of
faith.  I will write your story for you and your guests to experience
together.  Think of me as Home Plate and your wedding ceremony
as a celebration in the ball park.

I’m also there to make your union legal.  In New York City, all you
need to make your marriage legal is the two of you, one witness,
and me.  Everything else is gravy.  The ring, the dress, the
caterer, the wedding planner, the guests - everything.  So as long
as you don’t need any of it, you can chose what you really want.
What you really, really want in your ceremony.

We can make this a joyful, easy task because you’ve already
made the most important choice - you chose each other.
